Brazos Bend State Park – March 30, 2013
Jim Stevenson, director of the Galveston Ornithological Society and a professional bird guide, led a birding trip at Brazos Bend State Park. Jim was a wealth of information on all of the birds we saw and he managed to catch a few snakes for us to study up close.
Jim quizzed us on the foot of the American Coot. He pointed out the lobed toes and asked how many other species had lobed toes. We didn’t know. Turns out only grebes do. The lobes help the bird to swim, but will fold out of the way when walking.
This one is x-rated. 🙂 Uh, well, it is early spring after all.
I played around with this image of a Black-bellied Whistling Duck in flight.
A couple more shots…
