Big Bend Photo Opportunities
Check the following galleries to see some of Kathy Adams Clark’s photos and some of my photos from recent Big Bend photo workshops.
Always have a long lens handy. There are many animals in the park. The opportunities are sometimes fleeting, so be ready.
The flowering species will depend on rainfall and other factors, but we will see some flowers. A reflector or diffuser might be useful if you have one, but not necessary.
We will see several different varieties of Prickly Pear cactus. Look for some dramatic shadows early or late in the day.
The scenic photography will vary depending on the weather and time of day. Use wide angle as well as telephoto lenses for landscapes. Get in close to animal tracks, rock patterns, weathered wood, etc.
Desert plants make very nice silhouette photos at dusk and dawn.
We try to be as flexible as possible to take advantage of whatever the park has to offer. Sometimes missing one opportunity, a sunset for example, and getting a storm instead can make for some incredibly powerful photos.
The night photography is outstanding. Weather permitting, we will photograph the Milky Way, star trails, pinpoint stars and play with light painting.
Be creative. Try something different. Kathy took this incredible zoom blur of the night stars.
