Night Photography – Katy – June 2016
It was another fun night of photography with Kathy Adams Clark! Our group visited Katy, Texas in the area near the Katy Contemporary Art Museum. The area is rich with photo opportunities including the art museum, a railroad museum, some grain silos (which we didn’t have time to visit, but I will go back to see), City Hall, railroad tracks, vintage store fronts and more.
I did some serious play in Photoshop on most of my images.
HDR
Door and Lamp – High Dynamic Range processing with NIK software
City Hall – High Dynamic Range processing with NIK software
BLURS:
Christmas Tree in Window – zoom blur in camera blended with non-blur image to keep the chimineas in focus.
Railroad Motion Blur – I didn’t like the gas station on the left, so I did a directional motion blur to give the appearance that the image was taken from the back of a moving train… Did it work?
Flower Blur – Slow shutter speed and steering wheel turn of the camera. Took two blur images and blended both together in Photoshop and then enhanced the blur using Photoshop’s spin blur filter.
BLENDS:
Flag RR – Blended one of my backlit flag images with the train car.
Flag Senior – Blended that flag image with the image of the senior on the back of the trail car.
JUST ACR:
KCAM – Nothing special here – just tweaked the sliders and filters in Adobe Camera Raw

Wow, Patti — exceptional, as always! Loved that railroad track zooming out from under my feet! Your blends work very well and I love the old door and lamp.
Thanks, Mary! I appreciate your kind comments. I am having a lot of fun with night photography, especially in groups. It is always fun to see what others “see.”
Beautiful work, Patti … love that door and door and lamp, and the Christmas tree window, and of course … that starburst in the last one! Wow!
Thanks, Kristina! I don’t quite have the starburst mastered as well as you do, but I keep trying. 🙂
